Sheraton Atlanta Downtown September 2019

By on October 11, 2019

I really enjoyed visiting Atlanta when I was here 4 months prior to this trip and am so happy to be back in September for Imagine Music Festival and trying ADA accessible camping for the first time ever with Unity Travel.  I brought a different buddy for this week long trip and needed to book only 4 nights at Sheraton Atlanta because 3 of the nights, we were camping at Atlanta Motor Speedway.  We stayed 2 nights before the festival from September 18 to 20 and 2 nights after the festival from September 23 to 25.

When we arrived to the hotel for the first visit, we were surprised to get a letter from the front desk staff detailing a Legionnaire’s outbreak that happened a few months ago in June and July.  We were then told that the hotel was shutdown temporarily over the summer and that the hotel had been cleaned thoroughly and passed through vigorous inspection tests and that the past few months there were no incidents for any concern.  For our second stay at the hotel, they accidentally gave us a regular room without a roll in shower in the bathroom but that was quickly resolved and we were switched to our previous room within 2 hours.

Location

Sheraton Atlanta is located right downtown and is directly across from Crazy Atlanta Restaurant and Sols Liquor Store.  This hotel is not far from the other hotel (Inn At The Peachtrees) I stayed at last time.  Again, this hotel is close to everything.  Just a couple blocks up on Peachtree street, there is Peachtree Center Mall, a bunch of shops and restaurants and a train station.  A few blocks further is Centennial Olympic Park, Skyview Atlanta, Georgia Aquarium and World Of Coca Cola and more.

Room

The room itself was quite spacious and had 2 large queen beds with lots of pillows.  The extra pillows were great as I could use them to help position me on my side.  There was so much space in the room that there was even a sofa bed and 2 large chairs.  What I didn’t expect was the door to the balcony was wide enough and had a flat pathway for a wheelchair to roll out.  I never ended up hanging out on the balcony as we were busy and ran out of time.  The view outside was to the parking lot and a parkade, so wasn’t really missing out on much.

The bathroom was also really large and it featured a roll in shower with a hand held shower head in addition to a fixed shower head.  The toilet was at the right height for my commode and I liked the layout of the bathroom.

Amenities

Breakfast was not included with our stay but there are 2 restaurants at this hotel: Fandangles Restaurant & Bar and Collage Restaurant.  We never ate at any of the restaurants but was told they were wheelchair accessible.  There is also a fitness area and a nice rest lounge area on the main floor complete with couches, TV’s and computers to use.  Free wifi is available throughout the main floor and in our own room.

Pool Area

The pool area is in the courtyard and is open from 7am to 10pm everyday.  There is also a retractable roof to let in the sun and fresh air.  There is a wheelchair ramp that goes inside the gated courtyard but there is no wheelchair lift for the swimming pool or the hot tub.  I was fine with that and didn’t mind just relaxing in the courtyard as it was quiet and not busy at all.

Aside from the Legionnaire’s outbreak happening a few months prior to our visit, I thought the Sheraton Atlanta hotel was a great place to stay at.  I liked how their was an accessible balcony at the room even though it was not the greatest view outside.  The room, the bathroom and the location was great too.  Rates are a bit high but if you can get a great deal at this hotel, I totally recommend staying here.
