2 months ago, I found a really great deal online to visit London and Paris and back to my city for less than $630 CAD per person and including all taxes. I have not visited too much of Europe so adding the United Kingdom and France added my country count to #30 and #31. My main goal of this trip was to visit family in London and Disney Paris for their 30th anniversary.
The Hotel
My friend and I left our city Sunday morning and arrived at London Gatwick airport just after 9 AM on Monday. My checked bag and commode bathroom chair were accidently left in my hometown and the guy at the baggage desk was not very helpful and no one had any idea when/if my luggage will arrive in London. With only our carry on items, my friend and I decided to take a shuttle and train to get to our hotel. The train ticket was 16.50 pounds and the carer gets a free ticket.
We finally made it to our hotel which was the Flagship Premier Inn Southwark Station Hotel that opened in December 2020. This hotel has 274 rooms in two buildings that is connected via glass bridge and has a Bar + Block restaurant on the main floor. It also has a new public park and courtyard that is available to the public.
It was finally about noon and the front desk lobby person allowed us to check in early. The lobby area was not fancy or anything but definitely looked new and the area was kept clean. It was easy to maneuver around in my wheelchair as there was a button for the door and elevators that weren’t too small.
Room
The room was more spacious then I expected. The one king bed made sense so that there would be more room for a wheelchair. I really liked the neon light above the bed as it just made the room look more fancy than it really was. The small desk was complete with a coffee maker, light and TV above it that never got in our way.
The roll in shower area and bathroom was quite large and was really bright. There were several grab bars by the toilet which was a perfect height for my commode chair which I didn’t receive until later. The sink had lots of room underneath for a wheelchair to roll under.
The roll in shower had an emergency pull string located to the side right beside the toilet. There were also a few grab bars, a foldable bath seat, shower curtain and a removable hand held showerhead that looked amazing. It was unfortunate that with the missing luggage and commode, I had to sit on the hotel toilet which was a dangerous for me and had to have a bed bath for our short stay at this lovely hotel.
Amenities
There isn’t really any amenities at this hotel. There is no on-site parking but there is a parking lot that is 10 minutes away that charges 35 pounds per 24 hours. There was free wifi throughout the property. The hotel also offers specials deals and package options for the attached Bar + Block restaurant. The hotel staff gave my friend and I each a free voucher for a breakfast buffet because of our ordeal with the missing luggage and commode.
We decided to redeem the vouchers on the morning we leave London to fly to Paris. That way we can get a nice full belly for our travelling day. There were a lot of hot and cold food choices including eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, fruits, cereals, juices and more. We both did not overeat but really did enjoyed our free breakfast buffet.
Location
Premier Inn Southwark Station has an address of 31 The Cut and is very close to the Southwark train station. It is also close to the Waterloo train station too. The London Eye Ferris Wheel, Thames River cruise and boardwalk full of other attractions, restaurants and shops is just a 15 minute walk/stroll from the hotel.
Final Thoughts
Premier Inn Southwark Station was a great mid level hotel that is bright, fresh and new. The staff was outstanding as they helped us with our missing luggage and commode situation. The location was great as it was close to a lot of major tour attractions and only 2 blocks to the train station. The rooms also exceeded my expectations as I would stay at this same hotel again whenever I return to London.
