Motel 6 San Diego Hotel Circle
Back in March, as part of our California trip to Universal Studios Hollywood and a cruise on the Disney Wonder, a friend and I stopped in San Diego for 2 nights. This was my second time in San Diego as I stayed at the Sofia Hotel back in 2014. I had free vouchers from a bad Motel 6 experience in Anaheim last year and wanted to use the 2 nights free in San Diego before they expired. Motel 6 San Diego Hotel Circle was where I booked.
The Hotel
Motel 6 San Diego Hotel Circle opened in 1965 and was last renovated in 2014. There are 204 rooms on 5 floors. When we arrived, our taxi dropped us off in the big wheelchair parking spot in front of the motel. There are double automatic doors which made it easier for us to get inside to the lobby with all our luggage.
Room
The room had two double beds that were comfortable and suited our needs. There was no space under the bed if anyone were to need to push a portable lift under. There was also enough room for my wheelchair to wheel around and for lift transfers. We also had a microwave along with a mini fridge that we actually used. A TV, coffee maker, and a big dresser was there too.
The bathroom was quite big with the toilet right beside the roll in shower. There was a flip up bath chair and a hand held removable shower head which was great. The accessible sink was a bit tight but I never really needed to wheel that close to it.
Amenities
The free wifi worked well in our room as well as in the rest of the property. There were also vending machines, soda machines, coin laundry services, free coffee in the lobby, free pet stay and even free on-site parking. Not bad for a budget motel.
Pool
The gated outside pool looked nice as we went by it. We didn’t end up using the pool, but did see a pool lift machine to help disabled guests get in the water.
Location
The motel has an address of 2424 Hotel Circle N. There is no shops or restaurants right by this motel, only other hotels and motels. Within a 30 minute walk/roll, there was the University of San Diego, Old Town San Diego State Park, Fashion Valley Mall and Mission Valley Mall. We visited both these malls and there were both more than half empty with hardly anyone there shopping or eating.
Final Thoughts
I thought San Diego Motel 6 Hotel Circle was an OK choice to stay in. The accessibility was great for me and it looked like a much nicer Motel 6 than others. The location wasn’t really the best so I was glad that my 2 nights were free due to some vouchers from a previous experience. I would probably stay in a busier area next time I am back in the city.
