My 4th Visit to Universal Studios Hollywood
Last month, a friend and I visited Los Angeles for Halloween weekend. We were able to go to Universal Studios Hollywood both the Saturday and Sunday. Going two days in a row allowed us to do everything at a slower pace and split the attractions and rides to both days. We managed to do a lot the first day and was excited to do the rest on our second day.
Getting There
We got an accessible Uber really easily and it was a quick 10 minute drive to the theme park. We didn’t go as early as we had my morning care to deal with. My friend also needed to grab a few things from the store too. We also weren’t pressed for time since we did a bunch of attraction the previous day.
Universal Studios Hollywood
Getting past the gates with my annual pass card was a lot easier this visit. We were also told that we could get our wristbands for Horror Nights any time after 3pm by exchanging our tickets at the marked booths throughout the park.
We then went to Guest Relations to pick up our Attractions Assistance Pass (AAP). It was even easier to get it because there was a note saying we were here the previous day. The AAP was valid for the whole day which meant we could use it for Horror Nights later that night. By now, it was almost noon and went to our first attraction of the day.
WaterWorld
(Upper Lot)
We saw that WaterWorld had its gates open and were seating people on the bleachers. My last trip didn’t have enough time to see this show, so I had to make it a reality to not miss it again. There were several wheelchair spots to park but we chose the middle section to avoid getting splashed during the 20 minute show.
It was great watching this show again as it was action packed with performers on boats, jumping from high above and fire bursts throughout. It was just as good watching WaterWorld in the day as it was was during the night.
The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash
(Upper Lot)
We then headed to the Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash ride. Since this ride does have a ride vehicle with a ramp, I do get to stay in my wheelchair for this. It is a casual slower ride that does feature a lot of colorful cartoony pet animatronics.
Character Encounters
Character Encounters are always fun and with it being Halloween season, there were characters like Beetlejuice to pose with. There will be more during the Halloween Horror Nights. When we passed through Springfield, we both managed to take a pic with Homer Simpson.
Studio Tour
(Upper Lot)
The elevators to go down to the queue area for the Studio Tour is right by Springfield in the Upper Lot. We didn’t have to wait too long to get on the accessible tram for this 1 hour tour. 3D glasses are provided for 2 small segments of the tour, when the tram is inside a sound/movie garage: King Kong 360 3D and Fast & Furious Supercharged.
The tour was basically the same as the one from August. That means the earthquake segment of the tour was still missing. A staff member said it would return next year for their 60th anniversary. It was still a great tour and worth going on multiple times.
Kung Fu Adventure
(Upper Lot)
After grabbing a frozen Butterbeer real quick, we went to watch Kung Fu Adventure at DreamWorks Theater. We didn’t wait too long for this 5 minute 4D show. I stayed in my wheelchair and just used the wheelchair spot. I had the option to transfer to a regular theater seat to experience the rumble of the show but was happy to watch from my own seat.
Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem
(Upper Lot)
We then went to the Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem ride. I was not given the stationary ride vehicle on my last visit by mistake so I made sure to get it this time. When it was our turn, I was surprised that there was no stationary ride vehicle.
It was just an empty wheelchair spot with a companion chair at the back of the room with a gate. We basically just watched a video of the minions on screen. It was still a fun short video with no movement and worth experiencing.
Super Silly Fun Land
(Upper Lot)
We went by Super Silly Fun Land which is an outdoor seaside carnival from the movies. It is for all ages but seemed targeted to younger visitors. There is over 80 different water play features, Super Silly ride, arcades and a few carnival games. We didn’t really stay too long in this area.
Final Thoughts
With the park closed at 6pm for Halloween Horror Nights and everything closing at 5:30pm, we did everything in 6 hours that wasn’t done the previous day. We stayed in the Upper Lot the whole day. I really enjoyed visiting Universal Studios 2 days back to back since we got to do everything in a slower and more thorough pace.
We did go to Universal Halloween Horror Nights after our 2nd night so look for that blog post next week. Since we were already in the park, we got to see the park transition to that event which goes from 7pm to 2am.
