Chops Grille on Liberty of the Seas
Chops Grille
Chops Grille is one of the specialty restaurants on select Royal Caribbean cruise ships. It is an extra cost that guests may make reservations for if they choose to. When a friend and I were on the Liberty of the Seas ship last month, we made a reservation for lunch on our sea day.
Getting There
Reservations for Chops Grille can fill up fast so it is best to book in advance. Doing this also gave us a chance to get a discount sale. I saw online that there was $5 off per person for lunch and booked for the both of us on our sea day. The sale price was $21.99 plus 18% gratuity each person.
We chose lunch as it was so much cheaper than dinner. The Angus Filet Mignon was offered at both the lunch and dinner menu and that was what I wanted anyways. Located on deck 11 of our ship, we arrived a few minutes before our scheduled time. Dress code is listed as smart casual.
Food
Lunch was a 4 course meal: a starter, appetizer, entree, and dessert. We were told we could order as many appetizers and sides as we wanted to. A plate of bread was given as a starter. The pretzel stick with butter was quite tasty.
I got 2 appetizers as I wanted both the wild mushroom soup and the colossal shrimp cocktail. Again, both were so good and flavorful that it made me excited for my entree. Each shrimp was huge and I was tempted to order another one but didn’t.
Our main entrees were both superb. I got the 8 ounce Angus Filet Mignon while my friend got the grilled Atlantic salmon. My steak came with 3 sauces: Chops homemade steak sauce, Bearnaise and Bordelaise sauce. I did not bother with any as the steak was already good as is.
We each only got 1 side of grilled jumbo asparagus. Our waiter kept urging us to order more side dishes but we were content with what we already had. We did not order any drinks for a charge and just had water. My red velvet cake slice was amazing and so was my friends key lime pie slice.
Service and Atmosphere
Chops Grille is a lot quieter than the main dining room Rembrandt or Windjammers buffet. The decor and furniture were very similar to Rembrandt. Nothing looked too fancy or intimidating to us.
Our waiter was very friendly and very attentive to us and very informative about the menu. He gave us recommendations and kept offering us a discount if we wanted to come back for dinner. Seems like the ratio of servers to diners is better so the service was faster and better.
Final Thoughts: Worth Additional Cost?
Is Chops Grille worth the additional cost? I’d definitely say yes for lunch since you can get some of the same items from the more expensive dinner menu. Especially since we bought the reservation in advance for a discount. Even without celebrating a special occasion I would pay for this premium dining experience.
