Top 5 Things To Do During A Rainy Cruise
On my most recent cruise I went on, I was surprised that most of my 5 day cruise was rainy. I have done 5 cruises before and all of them have been hot or blistering hot. I guess my hot streak of having great weather has to come to an end sooner than later. Even with rain or slight rain everyday, that did not stop us from having fun on our vacation. I was on the Carnival Paradise last month in May and even though I didn’t really get to lounge in the sun on the upper deck, there were still other things to do to keep me occupied. Here are my 5 top things to do during a rainy cruise:
1.) Check Out the Ship’s Activities
There are daily newsletters with a long list of onboard activities that takes place on the ship throughout the day. There could be bingo games going on, art shows, karaoke, and many options to choose from. This is a great chance to explore the ship and try a new activity. Who knows? It could turn out to be a great new hobby or interest for you. During one of the rainy days, I got to attend my first art auction and was pleasantly surprised how it went.
2.) Eat
Since, I am vacation, that means I get to eat what I want right? I do tend to eat more on vacations but still try to limit my portions to smaller sizes. I like to sample every food, so I know what to keep coming back for. I was on the Carnival Paradise 2 years in a row and noticed the addition of Guy’s Burger Joint this year. Food Network star Guy Fieri has the best burgers that was too good to resist and I now have to keep booking Carnival cruiselines to have them in my life.
3.) Drink
I am not a huge drinker so didn’t opt in to get the beverage package. For $52.95 each guest are allowed up to 15 alcoholic drinks and unlimited sodas per 24 hours. Both guests in a cabin must purchase this package for the duration of cruise or none at all. There are a few I would like to try throughout the cruise and during a rainy day, it would be great to sit at a lounge and try a new drink. Buying single drinks at a time are quite expensive so budget wisely.
4.) Hang Out at the Casino
The casino is always a great spot to hang out when it’s raining out. There are always casino events and tournaments held throughout the day. I am not a huge gambler but I don’t mind spending a few bucks at a slot machine or one of those casino games. I always limit myself at the casino because I know the odds of winning are low. Maybe I could get lucky? I could win enough money for another cruise?
5.) Wear A Poncho and Head Out Anyways
Sometimes you just gotta go out and do it regardless of the rain. On our stop in Cozumel, instead of just staying on the ship and hiding, we got some ponchos and headed out to our port. When there was light rain, we ventured around a bit but during heavy downpour, we drank at a Fat Tuesday, used the free wifi and just watched the festive activities at this popular bar. Eventually the weather got a bit nicer and we never missed out on leaving the ship.
So a rainy cruise isn’t really all that bad. It can still provide a unique thrill and excitement to any vacation. I prefer a hot sunny cruise and have been really lucky so far, but there are still some great things to do while it’s raining out. A vacation is what you make of it, and I always think positive and make the best out of every situation.
