Staying At Plaza Pelicanos Club Beach Resort In Puerto Vallarta
I have been to Puerto Vallarta as my very first trip post-injury in November 2006. I wanted to revisit as I have gained a lot of travel experience over the past 12 years. I researched online and sent a few messages to different all-inclusive hotels that is near downtown. The friendly staff at Plaza Pelicanos Club Beach Resort assured me that they have accessible rooms on the main floor with a roll in shower. This is a smaller hotel with 186 rooms in a 3 storey building.
Accessible Rooms
Since there are no elevators in this 3 floor hotel, all the accessible rooms are located on the main floor. I was told that all the accessible rooms only come with 1 bed, but luckily the nice staff at the front desk provided us with an extra roll away bed for no extra charge during our week long stay. The room wasn’t overly huge but was adequate enough for my needs.
The bathroom was a bit small, but was thankful that my commode fit over the toilet properly and that the roll in shower was functional. It was a bit small so had to get my commode turned around to wash different body parts. The shower head was fixed in the wall so it wasn’t as easy to have a proper shower. I prefer the removable hand held shower heads.
Hotel & Location
The hotel had ramps getting into the main lobby and was pretty accessible throughout. They didn’t really have any accessible bathrooms throughout the hotel main area but a few of the stalls were just big enough to let me wheel in. The nightly entertainment is a bit similar to one another but still worth seeing. I thought the hotel was in a great location. There are lots of restaurants, shops and even the La Isla mall was about a 15 minute stroll. The Malecon is about a 40 minute stroll from the hotel. It is basically a 12 block long boardwalk by the beach with lots of clubs, restaurants and shops. Some sidewalks had curb cuts and some had a step, but I always bring a strong friend to help me over the bumps. Otherwise it is a nice stroll getting to the Malecon.
The included transfer was not an accessible van but I had help getting lifted into the front seat of the van. I was then buckled in for the 15 minute drive to the airport. If I was to request separate shuttle it would have still cost $50 USD for the same short ride. I did not think that was worth it.
Food & Restaurants
There are 2 restaurants that share the same space and alternate nights between Italian and Japanese. The food here was quite average but at least it gives us a chance to sit, relax and get served our dinner. The food at the buffet was quite average too but I enjoyed their breakfast the best. I enjoyed the omelettes and hash browns. They sometimes barbecue food items by the beach pool like fish and chicken which was really delicious. They even had a special New Year’s eve dinner which was quite good. I ate off the resort a few times when I got bored with the resort buffet. Surprisingly, for an all-inclusive resort, food and alcohol is cut off at 1 am. I also liked how they have a coffee shop that had great coffees and baked items that are included.
Pool Area
The pool area is a great place to relax and soak up some sun. There is a pool by the buffet restaurant and another pool by the beach area. Both pools do not have ramps or lifts to get in and the pool by the beach has a short steep ramp to get to. There is also a longer pathway that isn’t as steep that also gets you to the beach club. There is a bunch of stairs to get to the public beach from the beach club so I didn’t bother visiting the public beach.
I was still pleasantly surprised with this all-inclusive resort and found the staff and accessibility to be great. The food was average and if you are looking for a place with 24 hour food and drinks, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a smaller hotel with a great location, decent accessibility and a relaxing trip, the Plaza Pelicanos Beach Club Resort is a great option.
