Going Up The Burj Khalifa

By on April 30, 2019

Wow, can’t believe it’s been 5 years since I have visited Dubai and Abu Dhabi.  Besides going with a travel buddy, my brother joined us for this epic trip in February of 2014.  During this month it is hot with temperatures in the high 20’s or low 30’s celcius but does not get as hot as during the summer months where the temperature can get up to the low 40’s.  I love visiting giant tall towers because I love checking out the landscape of the city.  It lets me see all the buildings, attractions and parks of places that I visit and see how big the city really is.  Being in Dubai, it is a must to check out the world’s tallest building in the world.  Plus visiting The Burj Khalifa, this is a non-stop multi entertainment destination.

at The Dubai Mall

The Dubai Mall

To get to the Burj Khalifa, we had to go to one of the world’s largest mall, The Dubai Mall.  This mall is so huge it has over 1200 stores and features Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, VR Park Dubai Amusement Park, Dubai Ice Rink and more.  There is so much to do at this mall, you can definitely spend a few days here and won’t be bored.  There are a lot of restaurants, food choices and high end retail stores in this mall if that is your thing.

The Dubai Fountain

My favorite part of this mall is checking out The Dubai Fountain.  It is the world’s largest choreographed fountain system and combines water, music and light into an amazing show.  They do a few shows during the day but during 6pm to 10pm, there are shows every half hour.  Watching this at night is better because you can see the lights better.  We got to see the show during both the day and the night, and we all thought this was more spectacular than the fountain show at Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.

Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building.  From the bottom to the very tip of it, it is 830 meters (2722 feet) tall and has over 160 floors.  As I mentioned in my other blog post about Dubai, I highly recommend buying tickets to The Burj Khalifa in advance online as it is less than half the price of buying tickets at the door.  This could save you a lot of money if going in bigger groups.

At The Top of Burj Khalifa

The Observation Deck

An outdoor observation deck named “At The Top” is located on the 124th floor.  I was just happy to hear that I can actually do this as some observation decks at other towers I been to was not wheelchair accessible.  I was amazed at how fast the elevator got you from the bottom of the tower to this observation deck.  It was about a 1 minute ride in the elevator and it was a shockingly smooth and comfortable ride.  You can barely tell that the elevator was even moving.

I really liked how this deck was open-air.  The really high glass walls were there for safety purposes and the view here of the city was just drop dead gorgeous.  We went during the day and really enjoyed our time here.  We loved both the indoor observation area and the outdoor viewing area.

Overall Impression

Visiting The Burj Khalifa is definitely something you would not want to miss when you are in Dubai.  There are so many things to do when visiting this multi entertainment destination.  Not only can you be entertained for the whole day but you can shop and eat until you drop.  I would love to visit this mall again to check out the aquarium, the fountain and the Burj Khalifa,  Just have to remember to buy tickets in advance online to save time and money.
