Hotel Warari Cusco, Peru
After spending one night at Hostal El Triunfo which had many stairs during the summer of 2015, me and 3 friends had to switch to a more wheelchair accessible place. We liked the location where we at, so we picked somewhere not too far. Hotel Warari was about a 15 minute walk/stroll from Hostal El Triunfo or a 5 minute drive.
The Hotel
The front entrance to Hotel Warari was a lot better than some of our other hostels. There was a curb cut right in front of the door in case wheelchair guests come from the road getting out of a taxi. To get in the hotel, there weren’t any steps at all, as it was level with the street. Even the front lobby was spacious and had lots of room for my wheelchair. This hotel has 27 rooms.
The elevator however, was a pain to use. It was so narrow, my manual wheelchair could not even get inside properly. My buddy had to carry me out of my wheelchair and sat me on the floor. Then he would collapse my wheelchair to bring it inside the elevator. We had to do that every single time we used the elevator which was annoying.
Room
At this hotel, we had 2 rooms with 2 beds each because they didn’t have a room for the 4 of us. The rooms were basic size and I got to share the room with my buddies grandfather.
The bathroom wasn’t too bad. It isn’t huge but not small and tight either. The roll in shower has a slight bump to get in and is just big enough for my commode. There isn’t a hand held removable shower head either as it is fixed in the wall.
Amenities
This hotel is nicer than the other hostels that we stayed at during our South American trip. Hotel Warari offers free wifi and a free breakfast buffet daily. There wasn’t a lot of choices as it was just bread, baked goods, cereal, juices, milk and coffee. We didn’t think it was worth getting up early for.
Location
Orellana Pumaqchupan Park is literally under a 5 minute walk/stroll from the hotel. It is a small grassy area with some benches in the middle of the street. There is even a cool water fountain there.
Just like Hostel El Triunfo, Hotel Warari is also close to Plaza De Armas; the central plaza. This is where all the shops, restaurants, benches and the central fountain can be found. We did spend some lazy time when we wanted a great spot to rest and just people watch and see the everyday life of the Peruvians.
Coricancha or Qorikancha is only a 9 minute walk/stroll from the hotel and is the most important temple in the Inca Empire. We didn’t really go right up to the temple to explore or check it out up close. We just hung out by the benches in front and just rested a bit while seeing Coricancha from a distance.
Hotel Warari would have been a great choice to stay when visiting Cusco if it wasn’t for the elevator. It has a great location as it is close to Plaza De Armas and many shops and restaurants. There is no steps to get inside the hotel and the roll in shower isn’t too bad with a slight bump to get in.
