In the middle of our Vietnam trip in November 2017, me and 3 friends stayed at Lotus Boutique Hotel in Hanoi for 4 nights. I previously wrote about my experiences at Rosabella Hotel and Quy Hung Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, so look for them on my page. Hanoi is my birth city and I was so happy to return for the first time since moving to Canada to check out the sights.
The Hotel
Lotus Boutique Hotel also listed themselves as being wheelchair accessible but as soon as we arrived to the hotel, we noticed that there were 3 steps to get inside the hotel to the reception desk. I almost always travel with my manual wheelchair for issues like this and bring a strong friend to help me any time there is a few steps to get inside a building.
There is over 30 rooms at this hotel and there is one elevator that takes guests to all the floors. The elevator is a bit small but wasn’t as tight as some of the other elevators I have been in during my trips.
Room
The room we got wasn’t too bad except they gave us only 1 bed. Our other 2 friends got their own room, and my buddy and I shared a room. The size and the space of the room wouldn’t have fit 2 smaller beds. Otherwise we had the basics in the room like a tv which we never use and a dresser for our clothes.
The bathroom was also small just like our other 2 hotel rooms in Vietnam and the roll in shower had a slight bump to get inside the equally small shower. It still worked for my smaller temporary commode and I think it would fit my regular tilting commode too. The toilet was also a good height and had enough space if I were to use my regular commode.
Amenities
Just like our other 2 budget hotels in Vietnam, Lotus Boutique Hotel did not really offer any amenities. All 4 of us really enjoyed the free breakfast buffet they had daily. Not only were we able to order whatever we wanted off a menu, there was a table stocked with baked goods, fruit, juice and coffee. The menu consisted of traditional Vietnamese cuisine along some Western favorites.
We really enjoyed the free breakfast that we made sure to wake up in time to take advantage of it. Even on the day of one of my friends birthday, the staff gave her a really nice Asian fruit filled birthday cake. We really thought it was a nice gesture and that cake was big enough for each of us to have multiple servings for more than 1 day.
Location
Lotus Boutique Hotel is located in the Old Quarter neighborhood of Hanoi, Vietnam. It is on a relatively quiet street but is very close to lots of shops, restaurants and attractions. About 5 minutes walk/stroll away is Hoan Kiem Lake and world famous Thang Long Water Puppet Theater. I even wrote about a day trip with a tour guide around the area here.
Lotus Boutique Hotel was my favorite hotel of the 3 we stayed at during our Vietnam trip. Besides having the 3 steps to get into the hotel from the street, the rest of the hotel was wheelchair accessible. It has a great location, delicious free breakfast options and is really affordable. I would recommend booking a room on the upper floors since the room has a balcony terrace if it is wheelchair accessible too.
