Anaheim Discovery Inn & Suites

By on November 10, 2020

During the first weekend of May 2015, a buddy and I flew to Anaheim, California to attend an NHL playoff game between the Calgary Flames and the Anaheim Ducks.  We used some Westjet buddy passes and successfully made it in Anaheim from the Friday to Monday.  We wanted to find a hotel that was close to Disneyland Park and Disney California Park and wasn’t too expensive.  We ended up staying at Anaheim Discovery Inn & Suites for the 3 nights we were visiting.

The Hotel

We actually flew to John Wayne Airport in Orange County and will leave at this airport too.  We had to take an accessible taxi and it took just over 20 minutes to get to Anaheim Discovery Inn & Suites.

about a 20 min drive to the hotel

This hotel is actually a motel as all the rooms are accessible by the parking lot.  The front desk is located right at the front of the property and we didn’t have any issues checking in.  The website listed this place as being ADA accessible and I even requested and got confirmation that we got the accessible room.

Note: the front desk is only open from 6:30 AM to 10 PM daily.  If you need to check in when the front desk is closed, you must contact them in advance to make special arrangements.

Room

When we arrived at the room, we see we only got one large bed instead of 2 beds.  It was alright with us because we only had to stay here for 3 nights and we didn’t plan on staying in our room much.  The room was just basic and had a dresser, table and a TV.

The bathroom however was not a roll in shower.  There was a bathtub with a shower curtain.  The bathroom was a little bit tight but I was still able to fit my commode over the toilet.  We went to talk to the person at the front desk and for some reason they didn’t save the accessible room for us.  Since we were only staying here for the weekend and me planning to shower only once, we were ok staying in the room.  We just had to improvise with my shower.

they do have rooms with a roll in shower, but they forgot to reserve me one

Amenities

For a budget hotel/motel, this place did have a few great amenities.  There was a free full business center room where there was a computer, printer, fax machine and more.  We didn’t use that room as there was free wifi in our room anyways.  There is also free coffee in the lobby and free parking for guests.

There is also a small gated pool area right by the front desk office.  Although the pool isn’t too big, there actually was a wheelchair pool lift located here surrounded by a few beach chairs.  We didn’t have any spare time to relax here but the pool definitely looked inviting.

Location

The location of Anaheim Discovery Inn & Suites is perfect.  It is about a 15 to 20 minute walk/stroll to Disney Downtown District where both Disney Parks are located.  The hotel is far enough that we didn’t get the massive crowds of people or the loud noise coming from the theme parks.

Downtown Disney and both theme parks are nearby

Anaheim Convention Center and a CVS store is also just minutes from the hotel.  We frequently visited the CVS to get cheap snacks and drinks to take with us for the day or to bring back to the hotel.

Anaheim Discovery Inn & Suites was a great choice for a budget hotel/motel.  They do have ADA accessible rooms but I would make sure that it is reserved for me if I were to come back.  The hotel did have a wheelchair pool lift and is very close to Disneyland which makes it highly recommended.
