Accessible Taxis in Atlanta

By on September 27, 2021

Last week was my third time visiting Atlanta.  I came with a friend and had to deal with the hassle of providing vaccine documents to enter the country to attend Imagine Music Festival, only to find it to be canceled because of weather.

What I do remember about Atlanta was that, wheelchair accessible taxis are not that easy to get in the city.  During this trip, even when I call around asking for a taxi that has a ramp, a van taxi keep showing up. Lucky I travel in my manual wheelchair to transfer to the regular seat and have my wheelchair folded up in the trunk.  I was told that there is only a few accessible taxis driving around serving a large city like Atlanta.

even when I request for an accessible taxi, I get this

Info

The one company that actually has them are:

Atlanta Checker Cab        (404) 351 – 1111

Since there are only a few of these accessible taxis around, I strongly suggest booking them in advance to avoid long wait times or disappointment.

seems to be the only accessible taxi company in the city

Meter Rates

Accessible taxi rates are the same as regular taxis, which are as follows:

First 1/8 mile: $2.50

Each additional 1/8 mile: $0.25  ($2 a mile)

Each additional person: $2

Waiting Time: $21/hour

Flat Rates

Airport to Downtown: $30.00 + $2.00 per additional person.
Airport to Midtown: $32.00  + $2.00 per additional person.

Airport to Buckhead: $40.00 + $2.00 per additional person.
Downtown/Midtown/Buckhead Business to Business: $8.00 + $2.00 per additional person.

nice accessible taxi

By the end of my Atlanta trip, I made sure to call Atlanta Checker Cab in advance to get a nice accessible taxi to take us to the airport.  Taxi driver Darlene came to pick us up and was such a nice friendly driver and gave us such a positive experience that I decided to write this post.

all our luggage fits behind my wheelchair

Next time I visit Atlanta, I will definitely remember to book an accessible taxi in advance with Atlanta Checker Cab.  With only a few accessible taxis in such a large city, hope this information helps you on your trip to make it less stressful.

thanks for the ride Darlene
