Ocean Mile Hotel Fort Lauderdale

Earlier this month, a friend and I booked a last minute cruise to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We had 3 nights in the city before our cruise and wanted a hotel that was close to Port Everglades cruise terminal, close to Fort Lauderdale beach, and that was wheelchair accessible. We ended up booking a budget stay at Ocean Mile Hotel.

Hotel

Ocean Mile Hotel was built in 1988 and has 45 rooms on 3 floors. When we booked this hotel online, the confirmation email told us to contact the property if we were checking in after 9 PM. We did call in the morning of our arrival and told them we would check in around 10 PM. The manager told us he would leave our room door unlocked and that our room key would be left on the desk inside our room.

When we did arrive, everything was exactly as said by the manager. Room 104 was unlocked and we went in. We got our accessible room with the roll in shower, two beds, and our room key was in a drawer of the desk.

When we saw the manager the next morning, he gave us the free wifi password and paid him the $20 deposit for our room key. The front office desk was in a small room at the entrance and did have 1 step to get inside. We just had the manager come out to talk to us when we needed him to.

Room

The room was spacious and was great except if had a small table with 2 chairs that were kind of in the way. The 2 beds were soft and didn’t really have much space under it for a hoyer lift to roll under. There was also a small kitchenette on the side of the room that has too narrow a passage way that I could not even fit with my wheelchair.

The bathroom had a small closet area right beside it. The roll in shower had all new flooring tile which was nice. There was only a fixed shower head which made it hard to wash my lower body. The roll under sink and toilet height and position was great for my commode to roll over it.

Amenities

Being a budget hotel, there weren’t really too many amenities at this hotel. The free wifi did work well throughout the property. There was an on site laundry room right by some vending machines and an ice machine. There is also 1 accessible parking spot available for a charge.

Pool

There is a gated outside pool at this hotel. It has a door that is never locked though. There are tables and lounge chairs and even a wheelchair pool lift. I never used the pool but my friend did use it the once. I did just relaxed in the area as it was nice being surrounded by a bunch of green plants and flowers.

Location

Ocean Mile Hotel has an address of 4101 North Ocean Road. It is close to Fort Lauderdale Beach and a bunch of shops and restaurants. Examples include a Winn-Dixie grocery store, Dunkin Donuts and McDonald’s.
