TownePlace Suites by Marriott Goodyear
After staying 3 nights at a hotel in Phoenix back in April, a friend and I switched hotels so we could be closer to Phoenix Raceway in Avondale to attend PHXLights music festival. I couldn’t find an accessible hotel with a roll in shower in Avondale so I booked TownePlace Suites by Marriott Goodyear which is in the next closest city.
The Hotel
TownePlace Suites by Marriott Goodyear was built in 2009 and has 4 floors with 118 rooms. The front doors were not automatic and did not have any wheelchair button to open the double set of doors. The lobby and the front desk area wasn’t too big but it never really got too crowded or congested. There is also a free coffee and tea area near the lobby and everywhere looked clean and new.
Room
The accessible room was quite large and came with 1 comfortable King bed that had a bit of room under it for a portable lift to wheel under it. There was lots of room for me to fully wheel around for transfers. There was a desk across from the bed with lots of drawer space for clothes and a small TV on top.
In the hallway near the front door, there is a kitchen with a stovetop and cookware and utensils. There is also a full fridge with the freezer on top. A small microwave also sits on the counter which we have used multiple times to reheat leftover foods.
The bathroom had a door that swung outwards into the hallway that kind of gets in the way when trying to wheel my commode inside the bathroom. Inside, it was quite spacious with the toilet on one side with grab bars and the roll in shower on the other side. There was a flip up bath seat and 1 grab bar along with a removable hand held shower head.
Amenities
There was free wifi in the room and the whole property but for some reason it didn’t work well in our room. We told the front desk person about it but it wouldn’t be until the next day or 2 when they could get a technician in. We were only staying 3 nights so it wasn’t a bother using the wifi elsewhere in the hotel.
There was also a gym, business center, mini store and laundry for guests to use. A free hot breakfast buffet was served every morning that includes sausage patties, breakfast sandwiches, eggs, toast, cereal, fruit and more. It was the same items every morning but we still took advantage of it everyday.
Pool
This hotel has a gated pool at the back with both a regular pool and a hot tub. They both had their own pool wheelchair lift that I did not use. My friend did use the pool while I was just relaxing by the pool.
Location
The hotel is located at 13971 Celebrate Life Way and was a bit out of the way. There is a big shopping plaza right next to the hotel with lots of shops and restaurants. We ate at the Angry Crab Shack, Arby’s and the Pho House during our 3 night stay.
Final Thoughts
TownePlace Suites by Marriott Goodyear was a great hotel itself, but I would only stay again if I was to attend PHXLights music festival again. It wasn’t too far from Phoenix Raceway so an Uber or taxi would not be too expensive. There wasn’t too much near the hotel but the accessibility and the amenities were great.
