Mirador Mansions Hong Kong

By on September 24, 2020

When my buddy and I arrived in Hong Kong on a Sunday in December 2017 around 6 AM, we knew our Mirador Mansions hotel would not be ready for us this early, but we didn’t expect the front desk area to be completely closed.  We tried talking to a security guard but he didn’t really speak English, and after a few minutes of looking around for opening hours, my buddy found it and let me know we had a couple hours before we can see anyone at the check in desk.

My buddy had to push my wheelchair along with my bathroom commode chair and luggage while we just explored the block surrounding our hotel.  It was a bit tough and annoying for my buddy to push around so many things across the sidewalks, streets and the incline and slopes of the roads, so as soon as my buddy found a breakfast place he wanted food from, I just waited outside with all our belongings while he bought food back to us.

Location

Mirador Mansions is located in the Tsim Sha Tsui area, which is one of the busiest and most touristy districts in Hong Kong.  Being located on Nathan Road, there are lots of shops, restaurants and night life nearby.

With Victoria Harbour just a 15 minute stroll away, Hong Kong’s beautiful skyline views are just steps away.  The hotel was also about a 10 minute walk/stroll from both Star Ferry Pier which we used to visit Hong Kong Island and from China Ferry Terminal which is where we need to go to take a TurboJet Ferry to Maccau.

Accessibility

The first thing we noticed about Mirador Mansions was that there were 3 steps to get inside the main front entrance.  We quickly figured that there was a ramp to get in a back side door that was only open during certain hours of the day.  Once we got in, we are in a mall-like floor with shops and had to find the elevator that leads us to our rooms.

Once we get to our floor, we see that there is a long uncovered walkway to get to the reception office and to get to our room.  Some parts of the walkways are blocked by various miscellaneous items which I had my buddy clear the path.  The hotel looked very old and run down but we expected that because it was a cheaper option with a great location.

Room

Hong Kong room sizes are generally small since space is at a premium in the city.  There were 2 small beds that weren’t the most comfortable but still met our needs.  There was also a small dresser and mini tv monitor hanging on the wall.  We didn’t really spent too much time in our room so we were ok with the size of the room.

We asked for a bathroom with no bath tub that has a roll in shower, but with the language barrier it was a bit of a challenge.  We did get a bathroom without a bath tub, but it end up being such a tiny bathroom, a person had to shower over the toilet.  There was also one step to get into the bathroom and no space for my commode to be in the bathroom.

Amenities

Mirador Mansions is more of a hostel than a hotel. There weren’t any real amenities at this place.  It is a low budget accommodation that only has a bed and a shower.  The whole vibe of the place is also a bit sketchy, but I guess you get what you really pay for.

Mirador Mansions wasn’t exactly the best hotel/hostel for me.  It really does have a great location but this place does attract some questionable people since the price is so low to stay here.  The accessibility of the place wasn’t the greatest either.  I did enjoy the experience while staying there but wouldn’t stay there again next time.
