Excalibur Hotel in Las Vegas
Excalibur Hotel is a giant castle themed hotel and can be found on the South end of the Las Vegas strip since it was built in 1990. It has almost 4,000 rooms and is owned and operated by MGM Resorts since 2005. I have been to Las Vegas 7 times already and have stayed here 5 times. I really enjoy the location, the price and the accessibility of this hotel. I feel comfortable coming here and pretty much know the layout of this place.
Accessible Rooms
With it being my 5th time staying here, I always remember the rooms being spacious enough to accommodate both my powerchair and my manual wheelchair. The beds were comfortable and had enough space around it to maneuver my wheelchair around.
The bathroom was big enough for my commode and it was easy to position the commode over the toilet. The roll-in shower was just big enough to fit my commode and the standard hand held shower was great. Of the 4,000 rooms in this hotel, there are over 50 accessible suites with only some of them having roll-in showers. Just make sure you request the room you need in advance. I never had any issues getting the room I wanted in all my stays.
Hotel & Location
Getting in and out of the hotel was really easy and really accessible. The main front entrance and the back entrance had automatic doors and a curb cuts everywhere. There is even a moving walkway that connects you to the skybridge that leads you to the New York New York hotel entrance. There is even a free tram that connects Luxor, Excalibur and Mandalay hotels. The tram is also wheelchair accessible and very convenient to use. Excalibur is mostly carpeted throughout and has ramps when there are steps to get around the hotel. Excalibur is very close to the T-Mobile Arena where you can catch a Golden Knights hockey game and also close to MGM Grand, Luxor, New York New York hotels. There are tons of restaurants and shops nearby. The famous Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas Sign is about a 20 minute walk from Excalibur.
Restaurants
There are about 7 restaurants located inside the hotel that includes The Excalibur Buffet, Dick’s Last Resort, Camelot Steakhouse and Johnny Rockets. A few of the restaurants either open until late or is open 24 hours. You can even buy an all-day pass to eat at the buffet. We went to the buffet for lunch on my my last Vegas trip and thought that it was a decent buffet. Nothing spectacular but not bad or anything. If that wasn’t a good enough selection for you, there is even a 2nd floor food court that adds over a dozen more choices like Popeyes Chicken, Cinnabon, Krispy Kreme and Piza Hut. I miss the 24 hour Mc Donald’s that used to be here, it got replaced by Breakfast & Burgers in 2016. The food court is still a great place to get late night munchies.
Pool Area
For some relaxing time, the pool area is always a great spot to rest and get some sun. The pool deck itself is very accessible as I can get around it no problem. The pool is a great size but unfortunately there is no ramp or pool lift for disabled users. I don’t use the pool often anyways but this area is quiet and not too busy and is a great option if you want to take a break from busy Las Vegas.
As you can see, these are my top reasons as to why I like staying at Excalibur Hotel. With great accessibility, great prices, and a superb location, this hotel will continue to be my choice to stay whenever I come back to Las Vegas. Seems like I been coming here yearly so expect me to be back in 2019.
