Residence Inn by Marriott Long Beach Downtown

By on August 9, 2026

Last month, a friend and I went to Long Beach, California for a quick 2 night stay before boarding a cruise.  I wanted somewhere close to a few of the attractions we were going to do.  I looked for a hotel that also had a pool and free breakfast.  I ended up booking Residence Inn by Marriott Long Beach Downtown.

Hotel

Residence Inn by Marriott Long Beach Downtown opened in the summer of 2009 and has 11 floors with 178 rooms.  With heavy traffic from LAX, it took us about 1 hour to get to our hotel.  We finally arrived to the hotel around 5:30 PM.

The front main doors did have an automatic sliding door.  Upon checking in, since I was Marriott Bonvoy member, we were each able to pick 1 free snack/drink from the 24/7 Market that was right beside the front desk.  The lobby area did look very nice and clean.

Room

Queen size bed

We got room 201, which has a nice soft Queen sized bed.  It was a large room which had a sofa bed on the opposite side which my friend used.  There was also a couple small chairs and tables in the room along a TV and a dresser.

There was also a small kitchen with a full size fridge, microwave, stovetop and cookware.  We did not cook anything but did use the fridge for our snacks and drinks.  Surprisingly there was no safe to be found anywhere.

The bathroom was big and had the roll under sink just outside the bathroom door opposite a closet.  This would be good for multiple guests to get ready at the same time and still have some privacy.

The toilet was a good height with a couple grab bars, while the roll in shower had both a fixed and removable handheld showerhead.  A flip up shower bench and a few grab bars were also in the shower.

Amenities

This hotel also had a few great amenities that is great.  Wifi worked well throughout the entire property.  There was a 24 hour gym which we did not use.  There wasn’t an onsite restaurant but they did have a 24 hour mini market which sells drinks, snacks and a few essentials.

There was a free hot breakfast on the main floor served everyday from 6:30 to 9:30 AM.  We took advantage of this both mornings of our stay.  I went to the breakfast room on check out day while the other morning, my friend brought food to the room.  There was scrambled eggs, sausage patties, hash browns, fruit, cereal, pancakes and juice.

Pool

This hotel did have one long pool and one small hot tub outside on the main floor.  It is gated and requires room key access.  Both pools did have a wheelchair pool lift.  I did not use any of the pools, but my friend did.

Location

Residence Inn by Marriott Long Beach Downtown has an address of 600 Queensway Drive.  This hotel is about a 15 minute walk/stroll to Rainbow Harbor where the Aquarium of the Pacific and a bunch of restaurants are located.  The hotel is also about a 15 minute walk/stroll to the world famous Queen Mary ship.

Final Thoughts

Besides housekeeping forgetting to clean our room, we had a great time staying at Residence Inn by Marriott Long Beach Downtown.  Great location and accessibility, I would definitely stay again if I ever come back.
