Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate

By on February 15, 2024

Back in April 2022, a friend and I visited Anaheim to visit a few theme parks: Knott’s Berry Farm, Disneyland and Disney California Park.  We wanted an accessible hotel that was close to the Disney parks and didn’t cost too much.  We ended up booking at Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate for our 5 night stay.

The Hotel

Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate was built in 1985 and was last renovated in 2012.  It has 240 rooms on 4 floors.  We arrived a day late due to a flight delay, and called the hotel twice the night before letting them know about our flight delay and was told that our reservation wouldn’t be cancelled, but when we arrived it was automatically cancelled since we never checked in and got charged the 1st night.

After talking to staff, Expedia agreed to refund all 5 nights so we made a new reservation directly with the hotel for the 4 remaining nights and got a special rate but no accessible room for our 1st night.  The lobby was spacious with wide doors to get in but no wheelchair button.  There was a gift shop that sold Disney merchandise and a Disney ATM that sells theme park tickets.

Room

When we finally got switched to an accessible room, it was what I needed.  The bathroom was much more spacious and had grab bars next to the toilet which was at a good height to fit my commode over.  The roll in shower could have been bigger but it was still good with the flip up shower bench, removable hand held shower head and grab bars.

The room was very similar to the non accessible room we had for a night.  The 2 beds were still a bit firm but was still comfortable enough.  There is lots of room under the bed for a portable lift to roll under.  There was a mini fridge along with the usual TV, and dressers.

our room

We did have issues with our room after we switched to the accessible room.   We saw bed bugs and complained to staff.  We got a new room for the final night and when we were checking out of the hotel, we filed a complaint to head office and eventually got a full refund for the 4 night stay plus a voucher for 2 free nights for future use.

got a new room again, since we had issues with bugs in the 2nd room. No roll in shower in this room, but we only had one night here.

Amenities

There weren’t too many amenities at this budget hotel.  The free wifi worked well throughout the property.  We didn’t buy anything Disney from the gift shop or the ticket kiosk as the items did not look authentic and we had our own tickets already.

Pool

There was also a regular sized pool in a gated area on the side of the building.  A wheelchair pool lift is available too.  We did not have time to use the pool or even relax by it.

Location

The address is 100 Disney Way.  It is only about a 15 to 20 minute walk/stroll to Disneyland.  The Anaheim Convention Center and the Anaheim GardenWalk is just the next block or so.  We even ate at the Mc Donald’s not too far away from the hotel a few times.

hotel is quite close to Disneyland

Final Thoughts

Despite having issues with our room, I would still consider staying at Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate again.  This hotel is quite affordable considering how close it is to Disneyland and some other main tourist attractions.
