The Hotel Hollywood

By on March 28, 2023

Just a few weeks ago, a friend and I visited Los Angeles for 3 nights as part of a trip to visit the new Super Nintendo World and to go on a Disney Cruise.  We wanted a hotel that was close to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and close to a busy area of shops and restaurants.  The Center Lake Hotel which I stayed on my last visit to LA five years ago has since closed down.

The Hotel

The Hotel Hollywood opened in 1926 and is a historic boutique hotel located in the heart of Hollywood.  Famous stars who have stayed here before they were famous include James Dean and Marilyn Monroe.  We can even book to stay in those rooms that are now tribute to them.  There are 34 guest rooms on three floors.

Once we arrived, there was a wheelchair button to open both the hotel entrance doors.  There are no elevators in this old building but the 2 accessible rooms were on the ground floor right by the check-in desk area.  At first we were given the room with the accessible bath tub with grab bars but was corrected to give us the room right beside that with the roll in shower.

Room

1 Queen size bed only

The accessible room only had 1 Queen bed which was decent and comfortable enough for us.  There was a little space under the bed in case anyone had a small portable lift to roll under.  There was a small TV on the side wall which we did not even turn on.  There was also a mini fridge, safe, and enough closet space and drawers.

The bathroom was big enough for my commode to comfortably fit inside and position over the toilet.  The sink was easy for my wheelchair to roll right up to.  The roll in shower had a little lip to get into which was a bit hard to get over but my friend was strong enough to get the commode over the hump.  The removable hand held shower head was great enough for us to use.

Amenities

The free wifi worked well anywhere on the hotel property including our room.  There are also coin laundry services available after 4.30 PM.  There is also an outdoor terrace with tables and chairs.  We did not get a chance to check it out as we were busy with other plans.

Location

The Hotel Hollywood is located on 6364 Yucca Street and is right in the middle of Hollywood.  There are lots of shops, restaurants and things to do within a 30 minute walk/roll.  It was really close to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and some major attractions like Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Museum and Grauman’s Chinese Theater and lots more.  That was a big plus for choosing this hotel.

Final Thoughts

I actually enjoyed staying at the Hotel Hollywood and would definitely book this boutique hotel because of its affordable price and excellent location.  The only minor issue I had was the little lip to wheel into the roll in shower.  It does not matter as much to me because I always bring someone strong enough to overcome these types of problems.
