Disney Wish to Castaway Cay, Bahamas

By on January 28, 2026

On my most recent Disney cruise, our 4 night Very Merrytime cruise from Port Canaveral had 2 port stops: Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and Castaway Cay.  I previously wrote about my experience at Lookout Cay as this post will only be about Castaway Cay.

Getting Off The Ship

Our day started off getting Mickey churro waffles and other breakfast items at Marceline Market.  My friend and I didn’t want to disembark too early as the majority of people go early in the morning.

I was actually at Castaway Cay 10 months prior to this visit so I knew it was a docked port and what to expect.  It was standard procedure when getting off the ship.  All we had to do was just scan our key cards or MagicBand+ to leave and scan it to get back on the ship and going through security.

Castaway Cay, Bahamas

As I previously wrote, Disney’s Castaway Cay is a private island in the Bahamas and is an exclusive port for Disney cruises.  Disney has a 99 year lease through 2096.  Only 55 acres of the 1,000 acres is being used with 140 Disney cruise permanent residents who keep the island running daily.

There is a bunch of options for people to do at this port.  There are bike rentals, trams, run/walk track.  There are also port excursions like boating, jet skiing, sailing and more.  People can also relax on the beach or rent private cabanas.  Character meets are also at select locations.  Drinks and food are included except alcohol.

Our Day

After disembarking, we took pictures in front of the ship and the Christmas tree on the dock.  We didn’t bother taking the tram as the closest beach was only minutes walking/strolling.  At the post office, we took picture with Daisy Duck in her beach outfit.  We missed out on the photo op with Jack Sparrow.

We then took some pictures at Mount Rushmore and some by the beach.  We then stopped at a bar for a quick drink and rest. My friend then went to Pelican Plunge to use the waterslide while I just waited on the side for him.

We waited and got on the accessible tram and headed to Serenity Bay to have lunch at the adult’s only area.  I was surprised to see a wheelchair ramp that led to the brand new Hangar 98 BBQ restaurant that is included for guests.  On my last visit, Serenity BBQ was located right in the beach area and I could not get there.

Cast member Shanice helped us grab food and even helped me cut up my food and fed me.  The ribeye steaks were cooked to order and tasted amazing.  I also had the fish which was pretty good too.

We saw where the new Mickey & Minnie Cove cabanas were and it was right beside Serenity Bay.  The beach and the water had dividers to separate the family area from the adults only area.  We then took the accessible tram back to the main beach to check out some of the shops before walking/strolling the pathway back to the ship.

Accessibility

I thought the accessibility of Castaway Cay improved since I was here 10 months prior to this visit.  A bunch of renovations and additions were done less than 2 weeks before this visit.  They added more accessible beach mats and even had a small section of the beach where it was all matted.  Unfortunately it wasn’t right up to the ocean though.  I didn’t use the beach wheelchairs this visit either.

With the addition of the new 30 Mickey & Minnie Cove cabanas, it won’t be as hard to get a cabana.  This adds 2 more accessible rentals at cabana #9 and #11.  There is even a brand new accessible family/companion bathroom just outside of Hangar 98 BBQ with a ramp.  I am glad the new restaurant is accessible too.

Final Thoughts

It was another great visit to Castaway Cay as my friend and I stayed for about 4.5 hours.  The accessibility improved since my last visit adding more beach mats, cabanas, bathrooms, and a newly constructed restaurant at Serenity Bay.  I think I prefer Castaway Cay over Lookout Cay and hope to be back soon.
