Disney Fantasy to Nassau, Bahamas

By on April 3, 2026

On my last cruise, which was the Disney Fantasy Pixar cruise from February 1 to 6, there was two port stops.  There was a stop at Lookout Cay which I previously wrote on a separate post and a stop at Nassau, Bahamas.  This is my third time ever visiting this city and will write about this experience right here.

Getting Off The Ship

I was just at this port just over a year ago on Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas, so I knew exactly what to expect.  After having a nice  sit down breakfast, we were ready to start our day.  My friend and I planned on spending a bit of time in Nassau and buying a few things to bring back to Canada.

docked port

This is a docked port, so all we had to do was scan our key cards and exit the ramped gangway to get off the ship.  The ramp might be steep for some people, but staff is always there and ready to help if needed.

Nassau

From my last blog post, Nassau is the capital and largest city of The Bahamas.  Bay Street is the busiest street in Nassau and runs the entire length of the island from East to West.  It is located downtown in the city center and provides beachfront views and is right by Prince George Wharf which is the main port that serves cruise ships that has port of calls in Nassau.  It is very Americanized around this area with lots of shops, restaurants, banks and retail that could be found in any American city.

Accessibility

Once we got off the ship, we enter a shopping plaza that was connected to the port.  It was really easy to get around as the plaza was all flat and paved.  We browsed the shops really quick but left because things weren’t that cheap.  We wanted to get out more in the city to find some better deals.

The surrounding area near Bay Street and the port had pretty good accessibility since it was full of cruise passengers and tourists.  Once we got deeper in the city, roads were more rough and sidewalks didn’t all have curb cuts.

Our Day

World Famous Bahamas Straw Market

So after leaving the port shopping plaza, we went shopping for gifts and souvenirs at nearby shops.  We also went inside the World Famous Bahamas Straw Market.  This open air market is large and colorful from the outside and is mostly a crafts market on the inside.  There are all sorts of Bahamian souvenirs like handwoven straw hats, bags, dolls, shirts, sculptures art and more.

We checked out nearby shops and then went to Senor Frogs for a rest and drink break.  There were lots of people there and everyone was dancing and having a great time.  It was like spring break in there.  Afterwards, we went down Junkanoo Beach to explore the area and to get some sun.

A local joined for lunch with us at Twin Brothers restaurant which was located in the Fish Fry in the downtown area right by Junkanoo Beach.  Prices were quite high bit it was traditional Bahamian food and tasted amazing.  It was such a hot and sunny day but we got a nice spot in the shaded patio.

After lunch, we just explore more of the area near the port terminal.  We did look more at some of the shops at the port shopping plaza before getting back on the ship.  By this time, it was chaotic as there so many people trying to get back on their ship as there was 6 or 7 cruise ships docked at the same time.

Final Thoughts

My friend and I had a great time in Nassau, the 6 hours went by fast.  Checking out some of the Bahamian crafts and handmade souvenirs was quite cool.  Spending a bit of time at Junkanoo Beach was quite nice too as the weather was hot and sunny.  A port stop at Nassau is definitely worth checking out and getting off the ship for.
