Another Labor Day Weekend In Vegas

By on September 12, 2018

I had such an amazing Labor Day weekend in Las Vegas last year that I wanted to repeat it again this year.  This year, I didn’t wait last minute to book everything and will be in Vegas Saturday evening until Wednesday morning.  I booked at Excalibur Hotel and will stay here for the 5th time ever.

on the main strip

Again, thanks to Omnia NightclubEncore Beach ClubWet RepublicHakkasan and XS Las Vegas I got to see Zedd, The Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris, Martin Garrix and Diplo.  This year, it was also great to meet up with other Calgary friends who were visiting Vegas the same time we were.

Excalibur Hotel

This is my 7th time visiting Las Vegas and will be my 5th time staying at Excalibur.  I really like the price and the location of this hotel.  It is located on the south side of the main strip and not too far from MGM Grand and the center of Las Vegas strip.  It is very easy to get around the hotel itself and to all the other hotels.  The room itself was quite spacious and the roll in shower was perfect for my needs.  There is even a free tram that links Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay hotels.  The second floor has a large food court with some of the restaurants being open 24 hours.  I used to frequent the Mc Donald’s at the food court since it was also 24 hours but it has been recently replaced by a place called “Breakfast & Burgers”.

nice accessible bathroom with a roll in shower

Meeting The Chainsmokers

As I mentioned from last year’s blog post, we made it to the back to the VIP area of Encore Beach Club and almost got to meet The Chainsmokers but we had to leave to catch a flight home.

This year however, we stayed right to the end of The Chainsmokers set and since we got back to the VIP area again, we actually got to meet and greet and take pictures with The Chainsmokers.  They are one of the top DJ’s in the world and was extremely happy we got to meet them and take photos with them.

finally got to meet The Chainsmokers backstage

Omnia Nightclub

For what I thought about Encore, Wet Republic and Hakkasan, you can read last year’s blog post here.  Omnia is located inside Caesars Palace and is over 75,000 square feet.  There is a second level where you can look down onto the main floor.  My favorite part of this club is the giant kinetic LED chandelier that goes up, down, and rotates and moves to the beat of the music.  Just like Hakkasan, this club is very popular and gets very crowded.  It is very hard to get around with all the people but there are ramps to get to the dance floor and elevators to get to the upper floor.  Staff at this venue are very helpful with getting people to move out of the way if I need to get around in the club.

XS Las Vegas

XS Nightclub is located at Encore Hotel and has 2 different types of nights.  The first being inside a club with a dance floor and being an upscale luxury place.  The second is when they have night swims which have the DJ booth set up right by the Encore pool.  This was my first time attending this club and we saw Diplo at the night swim.  Accessibility is the same as any other pool area.  I just have to make sure my wheelchair is not too close to the edge of pool, cause I don’t want to accidentally fall in.  I managed to get around to all areas of the pool area and can see the DJ booth no problem.  The whole area was very nice, classy and features top of the line production elements like pyrotechnics, LEDs and lasers.

Exhibits

We got to see both Real Bodies and Titanic Exhibits on this year’s trip.  We thought it was really interesting that Real Bodies used real bodies in their displays.  Every piece had an information card explaining everything.  We got to see how every muscle and every bit of our insides looked like and how they are connected to other body parts.  The whole exhibit was on one floor of Bally’s Hotel and it took us about an hour to see.  The Titanic exhibit was in Luxor and was my second time seeing it.  Again, no pictures or videos are allowed in this exhibit but inside we get to see real artifacts recovered from the real ship.  We even got to see a giant piece of the ship that has been restored.  If you are a fan of the ship or the movie, this exhibit is definitely for you.  This exhibit was all on one floor and is very wheelchair accessible and took us an hour to do.  Both exhibits can be bought heavily discounted at those half price kiosks on the strip.  Both highly recommended.

great exhibit featuring real bodies

Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas Sign

The famous and iconic sign is located south of the Las Vegas strip, and is only a few minutes stroll from Excalibur hotel.  It is in the median of the road and it is very accessible as there are curb cut sidewalks and crosswalks leading to the sign.  There is even a small parking lot with accessible parking spots by the sign.  There were lots of people there taking pictures and you can either wait a few minutes to get to take a picture with the sign or even take a picture with the sign off to the side.  There was even a guy there helping everyone take photos for free.  This attraction is highly recommended as it is totally free and only takes a few minutes to do.  The sign is open 24 hours so you can go anytime you want if you want to avoid busy times.

the famous sign

This year’s Labor Day weekend in Las Vegas was another great trip. thanks again to all the clubs for all the great shows and fun times.   It was great to have a day exploring different attractions on the strip and checking out the exhibits and the famous Las Vegas sign.  Guess I will have to come back next year at the same time and make it 3 years in a row.
